ABOUT ARTIST
_BIO
Searer grew up in a rural ranch community in Northern New Mexico, on the boarder of Colorado. She began working with animals and studying them via drawing at a young age. During her high-school years she spent most of her time working, competing and training with horses. She then moved to Brooklyn, NY, to study Fine Art at Pratt Institute. Much of her artwork reflects the early years of her life dedicated to the coexistence and professions of working with animals. Searer currently lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she continues to do volunteer work at an equine veterinary clinic specializing in orthopedic surgery along with an equine therapy center that works with disabled children and adults.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Much of her subject-matter has a split frame of perception. On one regard, the subject-matter is to be perceived slightly unsettling and on the other, very common place. She works with the idea of translating body language between the image and its audience. The body language of an animal(humans included) is visual information- which relays emotion, hierarchy, communication, and reactions between beings. Her subjects vary from using a physical presence to a psychological implication. The themes for her artwork come from the use of domesticated animals (i.e. equine, bovine, canine), along with their history tied between mankind's, including advancements in society and industry. With her artwork she ventures to illustrate a contemporary understanding and equally lost communication between people and animals. Working primarily in large scale drawing, painting and printmaking.
